Subject: Silver leafing a custom bike

I am looking to do silver or immitation silver leaf flames on a motorcycle I just built. The the leaf will be layed over the paint. Do I need to sand the paint prior to laying the leaf?
What kind of adhesive would be best? The leaf will be under clear coat. I would also like to do a swirled effect in the leaf. What kind of brush or device would be best to acheive the effect? the swirls will be about an inch in diameter. I appreciate any help you can give.
