Subject: Re: tack times for gilder's size
Message:
After various re-formulations (removing the lead from the 3 hr and 12 hr due to US EPA regulations) and trials and errors it took LeFranc about 1 year to get a product that was a reasonable semblance of the former material. Comparing Rolco to LeFranc you will find that the new 12hr LeFranc still has a slightly longer open time. We do have the LeFranc available if you want to do some testing. Also, Rolco developed a new product called the Artisans Clear oil size. This is a 12 hour sizing that is very high in quality and has an open time that is longer than the old formulation of LeFranc. You may want to try this product too. The industry is beginning to move to this product for any high-end exterior gilding projects, i.e., capitol domes, exterior sculpture and iron work.
