I have had a vanity made and am trying to have it stained/painted. I am simply not able to find any one who will do this for me so I will be embarking on this project myself. I will use oil based materials.

The vanity is made of maple (top) and birch (legs and apron) It's open concept - no doors or drawers.

Here's what I *think* the process should be.

Stain it first with a very light stain (if any). Cover with a coat of oil base varnish. I want to get a bit of a medium brown tone to tie in with the tiles.

Lots of drying time.

Paint with eggshell, white? BM Muslin?

Remove paint to show wood below on corners and crevises. Is this done be sanding or can you apply wax before painting and later remove the wax?

Then glaze with a cream paint (with a soft hint of yellow) that would compliment the floor tiles (cream and beige) and walls (Benjamin Moore Muslin).

Seal. Light Sand. Seal.

Any feed back or tips, pointers where I am going wrong would really be appreciated. The final color will be the trickiest in my mind and any suggestions on how to develop the color would really be appreciated.
