You pretty much have it. If you stain, then paint then sand to expose edges, etc. you may sand through the stain to raw wood. Often we prime, then paint over the furniture. Allow to dry, then sand down to expose wood, edges, etc. We then antique the entire piece with a brown glaze (raw umber in water, very thin solution with a bit of glaze coat or floetrol). This lightly antiques the white and also darkens the exposed wood to the stained wood appearance. You could then apply your final pale yellow glaze. Make this by selecting a color from BM (for example) and mix it 50/50 with water or glaze coat to make your color glaze. Of course you can change this proportion for different effects, so experiment.
